Lone Nepali Soldier Defends Potential Rape Victim Against 40 Men
January 28, 2011 90 CommentsWhoa...holy cow! Every once in a while someone in the world comes along and reminds us what a true hero really looks like. A 35 year-old Gurkha soldier named Bishnu Shrestha was riding a train when he suddenly found himself in the middle of a massive robbery. 40 men armed with knives, swords and guns stormed the train and began robbing the passengers.
Bishnu kept his peace while the gang snatched cell phones, jewelry and cash from other riders. But then, the thugs grabbed the 18 year-old girl sitting next to him and forcefully stripped her naked. Before the bandits could rape the poor girl in front of her helpless parents, Bishnu decided he had enough.
“The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´,” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister.”
Here's the part of the story that makes you cheer. He pulls out a kukri (i.e. a knife) and proceeds to kill 3 of them, injure 8 of them, and causes the rest to flee. During the battle, he suffered a severe knife injury to his left hand, from which he's now recovered.
For those who don't know...this is a kukri. Maybe it's okay to bring a knife to a gunfight, after all.
Honestly, the article isn't revealing the whole story because clearly he was also armed with 2 GIANT F***ING BALLS OF STEEL which he clobbered the bandits with.
Bishnu, you're never going to see this post, but we got movie stars who can only play act what you did for real. I think quite a few men often daydream of a moment where we prove ourselves a hero. We salute you in our admiration.

The man is probably not happy at all about having to kill and injure so many people. He probably just realized that he would rather have to live with that than live with the memory of the alternative...a grim reminder that violence is almost never the answer, but when it is, it's the only answer.

There is a story that the British were going to jump Gurkhas into Burma. There was some question about the altitude that the planes would fly to the drop zone to avoid flak. One of the Gurkha NCO's requested that the planes fly as low as possible. The British Officer explained that if they jumped from too low an altitude their parachutes might not open properly...."What are parachutes?" asked the Gurkha.

A knife in close quarters battle is very effective against a gun, especially a rifle. If a man has a knife standing 20 feet from you and you are armed with a handgun, you may be able to shoot the assailant, but he will stick you before he dies and you'll be dead also. Google Tueller Drill.

I would like to point out that a kukri is not a mere knife. It's a meat cleaver designed for combat and can easily decapitate a man.

The Gurkha's were required (maybe still are) to draw blood if they draw the kukri knife - either their enemy's or their own. Perhaps this is why he waited to see how the situation was going to play out.
Indeed, the Japanese were terrified of the Gurkhas, but who were the Gurkhas afraid of? The Scots!! My Grandmother, who met men of both nationalities while they were stationed in England during World War II, told me that the Gurkhas would clear out of the way when Scots regiments marched by. Why? They figured that any man who'd march in a skirt (kilt) must be seriously hard.
The UK government resisted to the last extending citizenship to those Gurkha who had fought for the country. Maybe God knows why, but I surely do not. It is good to have men among us who remind the young what the words honor and courage mean.

The bandits didn't run away. After Sherstha WOUNDED 3 of them, he was overpowered and he got hit by his own khurki. The bandits continued their robbing.

i have been with nepali commandos when i was in the Indian Army they are the best of the very best. If you think Special forces/Delta force are tough these guys would eat them for breakfast. Long live the Nepali soilder.........They depend on human intel and not techno stuff like other armies use around the world. There is no Bishnu Shreshta in the list of 21 Shaurya Chakra awardees of 2011, and this story doesn't appear in the Indian press. Does anyone have more information about this story?
