Lone Nepali Soldier Defends Potential Rape Victim Against 40 Men
January 28, 2011 90 CommentsWhoa...holy cow! Every once in a while someone in the world comes along and reminds us what a true hero really looks like. A 35 year-old Gurkha soldier named Bishnu Shrestha was riding a train when he suddenly found himself in the middle of a massive robbery. 40 men armed with knives, swords and guns stormed the train and began robbing the passengers.
Bishnu kept his peace while the gang snatched cell phones, jewelry and cash from other riders. But then, the thugs grabbed the 18 year-old girl sitting next to him and forcefully stripped her naked. Before the bandits could rape the poor girl in front of her helpless parents, Bishnu decided he had enough.
“The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´,” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister.”

Here's the part of the story that makes you cheer. He pulls out a kukri (i.e. a knife) and proceeds to kill 3 of them, injure 8 of them, and causes the rest to flee. During the battle, he suffered a severe knife injury to his left hand, from which he's now recovered.
For those who don't know...this is a kukri. Maybe it's okay to bring a knife to a gunfight, after all.

Honestly, the article isn't revealing the whole story because clearly he was also armed with 2 GIANT F***ING BALLS OF STEEL which he clobbered the bandits with.
Bishnu, you're never going to see this post, but we got movie stars who can only play act what you did for real. I think quite a few men often daydream of a moment where we prove ourselves a hero. We salute you in our admiration.
Someone please mail this guy a "Bad Muthaf*cka" wallet. And by the way, if you're courting his sister, you better treat her right. Note, the video below is NOT in English.

Salute... You are a true hero man!

typical ghurka response to everything. That is why they are known as the most fearless people on the planet.
This is what I have heard.

He was very smart about it too. He chose to remain uninvolved before they crossed the line from theft to violence. Bravo.
freaking awesome!
Something awesome! He is real hero!
Never bring a gun to a Gurkha Fight!
Now that is a brilliant comment! :) Love it. So true.
Never bring a gun to a Gurkha Fight!
So long when we have this kind off people in the world, i will never loose my faith on humanity and this god damn planet(what is allready going down on the toilet so fast). Good job!! Real hero!
Bless him, what an incredibly brave man. The true essence of a hero.
I believe those knives are designed to decapitate. Am I right?
And lemme guess, he raped her after?
Grow the fuck up you piece of shit. You must be a teenager with a very low sense of self-respect with your balls cut off so as not to be certain of your gender. And if you want to comment back, let me know if you live in or near Los Angeles, California bitch.

Really? Do you think that's funny or something? A woman was almost raped. Do you have a wife, sister, or mom? Think about it for a sec before you make stupid jokes.

Are you projecting what you would have done, Lopaz? Not everyone is like you...
I hope you get buttfucked by Bubba in prison before he whacks your balls off with a shiv, you maggot!
Ghurkas. There's a reason they're the most feared soldiers in the world.
I am an EMS trainer and would like to send this man a trauma bag or some other first aid equipment to thank him for his heroism. Please let me know how I can track him down to ship this to him from Canada. YT, Jesse Beckow, A-EMCA
The man is probably not happy at all about having to kill and injure so many people. He probably just realized that he would rather have to live with that than live with the memory of the alternative...a grim reminder that violence is almost never the answer, but when it is, it's the only answer.
BISHNU you Rock!
Bishnu deserves a Global Medal of Honor!!! Bravo !!!
This is why we need tougher knife control legislation. Just think what might happen if this guy ever got a chance to listen to Limbaugh or see Beck on TV. knife control now, for the children!
What a retarded, pointless comment.

The Gurkhas have a reputation for bravery that is long established. The Japanese were terrified of Gurkhas who used to slip into their camps at night and slaughter them in their sleep. There is a story that the British were going to jump Gurkhas into Burma. There was some question about the altitude that the planes would fly to the drop zone to avoid flak. One of the Gurkha NCO's requested that the planes fly as low as possible. The British Officer explained that if they jumped from too low an altitude their parachutes might not open properly...."What are parachutes?" asked the Gurkha.
I believe the Germans feared them just as much in the North African theater, for much the same reasons, am I right? And that, on some of the bunkers they assaulted, they didn't wait for the enemy to fall asleep!

A knife in close quarters battle is very effective against a gun, especially a rifle. If a man has a knife standing 20 feet from you and you are armed with a handgun, you may be able to shoot the assailant, but he will stick you before he dies and you'll be dead also. Google Tueller Drill.
Awesome, awesome, awesome.
Thank You Bishnu.......
Actually, there are two rules in play here:
1) Never bring a knife to a gunfight;
2) It isn't a gunfight if you don't let them shoot.

I can only hope that the thug who wanted the first shot at raping the girl had just conveniently pulled out something for the hero to cut off, and slowly bled to death from the pudendal arteries.
I would like to point out that a kukri is not a mere knife. It's a meat cleaver designed for combat and can easily decapitate a man.
:D ...and can be wielded like a sword OR a knife. Further, if a Gurkha got into a fight, and his kukri broke - along with the 3 backup kukris he would likely be carrying - he could surely do the same things with a knife. Maybe even a penknife! Lifelong training has effects.
They can break? Last I heard, they were made of the same metal that trucks use for their leaf spring suspensions.
Yes, they are now.
But nearly same technology variation of preparing KATANA japanese sword is involved.
this makes good khukuri elestic that does not bend and hard that does not break .. amazing !

There is an old saying:
"If you say you do not fear death you are either lying or a Gurkha"
The famous "Flashman" series author George MacDonald Fraser wrote glowingly about the Gurkhas throughout his works, and served alongside them in Burma against the Japanese, carrying a kukri himself. He wrote that Gurkhas would often drop their rifles and charge into Japanese positions, screaming like banshees, with just their kukris alone. Fraser called the Gurkha "probably the most fatal fighting man on earth."
Unfortunately, there is then the real, original report: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata-/Soldier-takes-on-dacoits-on-trainGang-Of-30/articleshow/6488820.cms
from last September. It appears that the story has been a wee bit embellished since then.
'Still, the sergeant did a nice job, as best he could.
We have men like this in the United States as well. "One riot, one Ranger."
Still, an impressive account. Bishnu Shrestha, "Bravo Zulu!"

He had to draw blood, as soon as a gurkha draws his knife it can't be put back until it has drawn blood, even if it's his own. Gurkhas are brave, brave, brave and brave.
after the first stroke sends a body part flailing through the air it begins to make one think huh?
amazing what kind of attention one gets when a body part is flinged thru the air napali soldiers have huge stones luv it
That's True Grit and balls of steel. Wish more people had the balls to stand up for what's right.
I wish to point out that no-one familiar with Gurkhas would consider 40 Dacoits vs one Gurkha to be a "Fair Fight".
I'm honestly surprised that any hung around as soon as he took out his Khukri.
The ones who are dead and injured are the brave (actually "suicidally stupid" is closer) ones. "Dead" probably means "decapitated", "Injured" probably means "missing assorted limbs".
Bishnu had a reputation to uphold. A Tradition. He did so. As expected.
All iyt takes for evil to succeed is for a good man to do nothing - Bishnu did all he could. Thank you, Bishnu , for being a good man.
B A D A S S
Gurka means "cucumber" in Swedish. Go figure :-)
Wow! Maybe if he held out his 'open hand' to these poor misunderstood and desperate men everything would have ended peacefully... Sorry, I was having a liberal moment since I banged my head... This SOB is what being a man is all about. God bless him for his courage and honor. He handled it as it should have been handled and deserves every possible honor accorded to him.

The Gurkha's were required (maybe still are) to draw blood if they draw the kukri knife - either their enemy's or their own. Perhaps this is why he waited to see how the situation was going to play out.
Indeed, the Japanese were terrified of the Gurkhas, but who were the Gurkhas afraid of? The Scots!! My Grandmother, who met men of both nationalities while they were stationed in England during World War II, told me that the Gurkhas would clear out of the way when Scots regiments marched by. Why? They figured that any man who'd march in a skirt (kilt) must be seriously hard.
The UK government resisted to the last extending citizenship to those Gurkha who had fought for the country. Maybe God knows why, but I surely do not. It is good to have men among us who remind the young what the words honor and courage mean.
HERO!
I hope we will all be half as brave, and capable if the day ever chooses us! Khukri knives on sale at www.blackdragontactical.com
Way to go Nepali John Wayne!
Very cool...salute to him and his bravery....
Wait, you mean she had to beg him to help her AFTER she had been stripped naked and AFTER the other passengers had been robbed before he finally "had enough"? Yeah, some hero. Heroes don't need to be begged to for help. They just help.

Bishnu Shrestha is a superhero and he deserves a statue of him in his city, several million dollars and global honor!
This man has given me hope in humanity, I pass all positive vibes to his spirit!
I honestly doubt they ran away JUST because of him, I mean yeah hes still a hero and all, but there were 40 of them, with guns, they probly saw cops or something.
Not to undermine his bravery. He is a hero... But it didn't as well as this post suggests.
The bandits didn't run away. After Sherstha WOUNDED 3 of them, he was overpowered and he got hit by his own khurki. The bandits continued their robbing.

If you are interested in reading more about the Gurkhas and other fighting races of the British Empire, and about the Burma campaign in general, as told by one of the best writers to ever pick up a quill, get "Quartered Safe Out Here: A Recollection of the War in Burma" by George MacDonald Fraser.
I have no idea why a previous comment of mine showed up six times in here!
google sonny parsons, similar story, though not as heroic as this one:

There is no Bishnu Shreshta in the list of 21 Shaurya Chakra awardees of 2011, and this story doesn't appear in the Indian press. Does anyone have more information about this story?
If the world had more men like this it would a much better place to live!

my grandfather had the plesure of working with these folks in ww2. his words "all you had to do is tell the gurka which bad guys had to go first, then get out of the way."
